The Hellenic National Committee of ICOM, in partnership with ICOM-Europe, ICOM-France and ICOM-Cyprus, and with ICOM-CECA, ICOM- Belgium, ICOM-Georgia, ICOM-Germany, ICOM-Italy, ICOM-Moldova, ICOM-Romania and ICOM-UKRAINE as Associated Committees, has been awarded a grant from ICOM-SAREC 2023 to organize the European Conference “Europe of Museums. New definition, new perspectives: Identity, credibility, sustainability”.
The Conference will reflect on fundamental museum functions and the role of museums in addressing and resolving contemporary issues. It will also explore new challenges and prospects in terms of identity, credibility and sustainability faced by the European museums in the post-pandemic world. In line with ICOM’s Strategic Plan 2023-2028 principles, the Conference topics will hopefully open a fruitful discussion that will help envision the future of European museums.
The Conference will take place on the 12th and 13th of December 2023, at the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece. This will be the culmination of a series of events that are taking place throughout 2023 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ICOM Hellenic National Committee.
Participation in the conference is free of charge.
