My name is "Quartz". I am composed of the elements silicon and oxygen.

I am one of the most common minerals, the second most abundant in the Earth's crust and only a few other minerals are harder than I am. I appear in many rocks because I form in all geological environments. My name is due to the similarity of the color of milky quartz with hail. I exist in several varieties, which take their name from my color, or form.
