On the occasion of the "Celebration of the World Philosophy Day", the Science and Technology Museum (STM) and the Deans of the Faculties of Natural Sciences and Humanities of the University of Patras, in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Department of Education Prefecture of Achaia, organized a training Day Conference for the teachers of the Secondary Education of the Prefecture of Achaia and the students of the UP and other Universities, on the topic: "Philosophy, Science, Technology in Greek Thought", on Monday, November 15, 2010, from 09:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The Conference was open to the public and was broadcast live with live streaming.

World Philosophy Day is celebrated each year since 2002 on the third week of November, organized by UNESCO, which has recognized the need for common reflection on contemporary issues that concern humanity. On this day, UNESCO urges its member states to organize events and discussions on philosophical issues.

The Conference was held as a parallel activity to the exhibition "Telecommunications in our lives" at the STM. In the context of its work, important scientists from the field of philosophy presented philosophy, science and technology in Greek thought. At the same time, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the STM and the Educational Tours that take place there.

Initially, the participants were given a guided tour of the STM in groups.

The event was opened by the Rector of the UP, G.Panagiotakis, Professor and then greeted by: C.Kordoulis, Professor, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and acting Director of the STM, C.Terezis, Professor, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the UP, G.Panagiotopoulos, Regional Director of Primary and Secondary Education in Western Greece, E.Pierri, Director of Secondary Education of the Prefecture of Achaia.

The speakers at the Conference were:

Vasiliki Karali, School Counselor of Philologists of Secondary Education of the Prefecture of Achaia "The Concept of Progress",

Christos Terezis, Professor of Ancient Greek Philology, Department of Philosophy, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences "The Dialectical Relationship between Philosophy and Science in Ancient Greece",

Eftihis Papadopetrakis, Lecturer, Department of Mathematics of the UP "Elements of Technology in Ancient Greece: The Mechanism of Antikythera",

Spyros P.Panagopoulos, Ph.D. Candidate in Byzantine Philology, University of Peloponnese "The Contribution of Aretha Caesarea from Patras to Byzantine Humanism".

A discussion followed.

During the break, a video with the Antikythera Mechanism was shown.
