Science & Technology Museum, University of Patras Campus, Greece
The network “Water: Source of Life, Responsibility, and Action” is a network of schools for Environmental Education and Health Education, based on the corresponding program of the Science and Technology Museum (STM) of the University of Patras. It aims to highlight the importance of water for life, health, and the environment, cultivating values of respect, responsibility, and sustainability.
Through seminars, experiential activities, workshops, educational visits, and collaborations with scientific and local institutions, the participating schools cultivate skills for responsible water consumption, proper hydration and personal hygiene, management of natural resources, and protection of ecosystems. They also develop ecological and social awareness with an emphasis on water as a common good and promote health and well-being in the daily life of the school community.
Suggested themes that can be utilized by teachers:
• Water and health: the role of clean water in nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
• Fresh water: a rare natural resource; ways of saving and rational management.
• Salt water: seas and oceans as vital ecosystems—biodiversity, threats (pollution, overfishing).
• Climate change and water: effects on water supply, crops, and marine life.
• Water and culture: water in history, mythology, and traditions.
• Water and social justice: the right of all to clean water and sanitation; inequalities on a global scale.
