The Thematic Cultural Network “Volunteering” is organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs of Secondary Education of Achaia and the Science and Technology Museum. This network has operated very successfully in the previous school year.

The objectives of the network are to:

  • educate students, who are the future citizens, in the implementation of voluntary activities, which promote the active participation of citizens.
  • familiarize students with the culture of volunteering, an element of utmost importance for the very quality of our democracy.
  • contribute to the cultivation of an environment suitable for volunteering.

Operation of the network

The Network foresees joint actions, as well as actions that are individual for each group. Teachers can choose to work with their students on one of the suggested topics, or on another, by choosing the methodology and way of operating in their group.

Suggested topics: one or more voluntary bodies of society, volunteering at the STM, volunteering at the University, human networks, ways of social contribution, volunteering and social networking.

Proposed joint actions for the school year 2012-2013

  • Actions to get acquainted with volunteering at the STM.
  • Experiential activities of acquaintance with areas of the life of the Museum of Science that are often dealt with by volunteers (recording of objects, collection of objects, design of forms, implementation of educational activities, constructions, etc.).
  • Participation in the Event for the Celebration of the International Day of Volunteerism, where the programmed action of each team participating in the Network will be presented and the STM volunteers will be honored.
  • Participation in the Event celebrating the European Night of Museums, where the results of the work of the schools during the school year 2012-2013 will be presented.
